Bio-hydrocarbons for gasoline

Bio-/Synthetic gasolines are fuels that are designed as drop-in replacements for ordinary gasoline in standard gasoline engines by mimicking the chemical composition of traditional fossil gasoline.

Synthetic gasoline was originally produced by Coal-to-Liquid (CtL) plants until large fossil petroleum discoveries in the 1950s made this path uneconomical. From the 1970s, methane-to-gasoline (GtL) and methanol-to-gasoline (MtG) were introduced due to the international oil crisis. In the 21st century, the primary focus shifted to Power-to-Liquid (PtL) & E-Fuel pathways. Lately, bio-gasoline produced from organic waste has seen a rise in attention, e.g. in Spain (Repsol Nexa 95).
